Assistant Professor of Medieval European History (600 to 1500) – The University of Southern Mississippi

The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Medieval European History (600 to 1500) in the Department of History in the College of Arts and Letters to begin in Fall 2014.  The area of specialization is open.  The appointment is located at Southern Miss’s Hattiesburg campus.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 3/3 load, including world history surveys and upper-level and graduate courses in field of expertise, and to direct M.A. theses in medieval history and serve on doctoral committees.  The successful candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda and contribute to the department’s service obligations.  Minimum qualifications are a doctorate in history by time of appointment and the promise of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Applicants must complete an online application at https://jobs.usm.edu, including the submission of a letter of application, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, three letters of recommendation, teaching portfolio, and an article/chapter length writing sample.
