About us
Bath Spa University’s vision is to be a leading educational institution in creativity, culture and enterprise. With innovative teaching and learning, focussed research excellence and state-of-the-art facilities, we put our students at the very centre of all we do.

Based in the School of Humanities and Cultural Industries, History is a long established and very popular area of undergraduate study, with around 320 students currently enrolled. We offer Single and Combined Honours routes in History and an MA in Heritage Management. Teaching and research strengths include medieval, early modern and eighteenth, as well as twentieth century history. History staff are also engaged in supervising a variety of PhD students and we are looking to expand this latter area of provision, particularly in the international field.

About the role
We are looking for a historian specialising in Medieval/ Early Modern British and/or European History to help consolidate and extend our existing expertise in these historical areas. You will design and deliver courses in your specialist field, as well as supervise undergraduate dissertations/projects. You will also contribute to the teaching of existing courses, especially the core modules at year 1 and year 2; and where appropriate, you will contribute to MA teaching and participate in the supervision of PhD students.

The History subject team has an important contribution to make to the education of socially engaged global citizens through our subject. The team has worked alongside Heritage to develop extensive local and national links and is actively seeking to extend the area of History at Bath Spa University further into the international sector. A solid part of our curriculum is focused on the global, the contemporary and the diverse means of exploring the past and its heritage product. It is, additionally, a curriculum firmly linked with the University’s own employment agenda, and received an excellent internal review for the subject in February 2012.

About you
With a PhD in History and evidence of recent and forthcoming publications in Medieval/Early Modern British/ European history, you will be able to demonstrate recent, successful experience of university level teaching in this subject area. IT literate you will also share our commitment to a student-centred learning and teaching environment. Importantly, you will have an active research profile that can enhance the research culture of the Department and be actively seeking research grants and will be able to offer submissions to the next research exercise.
